The main criticism of the latest Bond film was that all things we come to expect from a Bond Film were missing. Gone were the cheesy one-liners, gadgets and typical Bond glamour of Dinner Jackets and casinos. Daniel Craig had turned Bond into some mindless automaton, a killing machine that is constantly being pursued or violently dispatching enemies. Bond has moved away from the cheesy warmth of Roger Moore and to the efficient, cold violence of Jason Bourne.
Personally I think Bond got too cheesy and this film comes close to the original nature of Bond created in the novels. Ian Fleming’s original conception of Bond was far darker than the movies portrayed. Fleming’s Bond was on the edge, a hard drinking, womanizer with a death wish. He relished causing and receiving violence. Casino Royale captures the sadomasochistic element of the Bond books perfectly with its protracted torture scene where the camera lovingly lingers on Craig’s naked and injured form.
The film is criticised because it lacks the soul of a traditional Bond film because there’s too much action not enough character. But this is exactly what makes a brilliant video game, relentless action no tedious gimmicks slowing it down. Quantum of Solace is truly a brilliant video game, not only does it capture all the excitement of the film it stays completely faithful to the plots of both Craig films. The game combines elements of both films.
X Box
The Quantum of Solace combines the first person shoot ‘em up experience of Golden Eye on the N64 and third person of Resident Evil. This allows players to adjust their game play accordingly. The game is built using the Call of Duty 4 engine. As with the best X Box games, multi-player is important and the game offers up to 12 multi-player modes.
The game has elements of stealth, close combat but also explosive battle environment where you exchange fire with many different foes all with advanced A.I. The game sticks closely to the film as it uses both Daniel Craig’s and Judy Dench’s voices as well as modelling the character’s actions on their movements.
PS3
The PS3 version of the Quantum of the solace is similar to the Xbox version but as is expected with the PS3 the graphics are far superior. Everything looks better, sounds better and plays better. As with the Xbox gamers can switch between first and third person view according to the situation. Look at the video above to see the difference in quality of game play between the two consoles.
Wii
The Quantum of Solace has advanced A.I., this means your enemies can think tactically and react in intelligent ways to your style of gameplay. As in both versions of the game, the action centers on both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Unlike the other two games, gameplay is significantly different because of the Wii remote which lets you direct your fire according to your movement. The Wii remote lets you target part of your opponent’s anatomy in close combat scenes. Check this out in the video it’s looks truly special.
